More about Clear Lake Wildlife Management Area...

The Clear Lake Wildlife Management Area is a 526-acre nature preserve in New York that's dedicated to protecting wildlife and their habitats. The area features a lake, forests, wetlands, and open fields, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.
Visitors can enjoy activities like hunting, fishing, and wildlife watching, as well as hiking, kayaking, and canoeing. However, these secondary activities are only allowed if they don't disrupt the area's primary purpose of wildlife conservation.
The area has two parking lots, one on the west side of the lake and another on the east side, which is reserved for people launching small boats, canoes, or kayaks.
The property was originally built in the 1920s as a water source for a nearby psychiatric center and was later used by a correctional facility. Today, it's managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) as a wildlife management area.
