Today's explorations bring me to Sugar Hill State Forest and the Finger Lakes Trail. Lots of good places to hike and camp around here. I hear equestrians and snowmobiles like it two with miles and miles of trails to do, some a bit muddy from the shallow soil and horse hooves.
Been exploring this today. Really nice views of the Connecticut Hill WMA and Cayuta Lake from Carlie Road just past the summit.
Keuka Lake is the odd little duckling of the Finger Lakes; but, it is not the “ugly” duckling by any stretch! Instead, Keuka Lake is beautifully unique and, though it shares much with its fellow “fingers,” it is set apart by its peculiar shape. Early settlers called this the “crooked lake” because, unlike the long and sinuous, finger-shaped lakes, Keuka Lake is forked and shaped like a Y. The odd shape is one of its many unique features, but more pertinent to outdoor enthusiasts is that Keuka is the only Finger Lake that drains into another. This gave rise to the Outlet Trail.
The iconic Cascadilla Gorge Trail connects downtown Ithaca with the Cornell Campus through one of the most picturesque gorges in the Finger Lakes Region. https://cornellbotanicgardens.org/location/cascadilla-gorge/
