After the Cap is Gone
Big Red soon enough just a memory
I sold off the truck cap from Big Red, it’s off with it’s new owner to Connecticut for $400. I could have asked for more but the guy was there with cash, and I wanted it gone. Truth is nobody really wanted the truck with the cap. But I wanted both gone. Looks so different with the cap off it.
Next up is to sell the pickup – I haven’t seen it in years without the cap – I am going to follow up with the people who offered in the range of $2,500 to see if one of them still wants it. And hopefully get that part of the deal closed down. I could ask for more, but ultimately, I’m ready to move on. Big Red was a good truck, and so far I’ve been very happy with the SuperDuty.
Hard to see it gone, but at a certain point you just have to move on with life. Time is short, you can’t dwell on anything too long, as it will be gone before you know it. Used up, changed, different. There are really so few things that are permanent or unchanging. Some things are for the better, but a lot of things aren’t. But so is life.

Before the Nor’Easter
I’ve been studying the forecast carefully, trying to decide if I can reasonably get out to Rensselearville State Forest without freezing my ass off, getting soaked, or having my equipment blow all over the place. I crave weekends in the wilderness, with a fire into the night, but alas it seems like the no go this weekend. Maybe I’m biased after my chair got burnt and my camp stove smashed with the roaring winds up there on Christmas Night last year, on last night camping with Big Red before his retirement.
This morning at 10 AM I am showing off the truck cap. Nobody had expressed interest until now, but I think $500 is a very fair price for the right person who has this truck. I could probably ask for more but I want to get some money out of the old truck, and if it went with the Big Red, it probably would not add more then $500 in value to package. At this point I kind of want both gone, but I still got to be reasonable. Maybe that person who offered me the truck for $2,400 will come up another $100 and then I’ll write it off for a loss. We’ll see what happens today.
Today is a work from home day, so that will work well with showing the truck. Going to do some work early, take a quick lunch break to drive out to Westerlo, then spend the balance of the day working from Five Rivers in my truck. Then maybe an evening walk in the preserve before heading home in darkness. Saturday might not be a wash out but it’s still unclear how wet and windy the weekend will be but probably not camping weather. Next Friday though I’m hopeful to be heading north before work, remoting in from Speculator, then the following Saturday hiking Snowy early in the morning to take int he peak colors at Snowy. Assuming the rain and wind doesn’t totally wash away the color – or that we have yet another rainy weekend next weekend. It’s been tough with all the rain we’ve had lately.
Going to be a wet weekend. So it seems, but I have hope for a nicer weekend next weekend. Still I worry autumn is fading fast, but I don’t think it would be a nice night for camping tonight. Weekends at home are so boring, but it’s good to catch up on work and maybe do some cleaning. Hoping the whole weekend won’t be one giant washout but it’s hard to know for sure. All depends on the storm track. But not one for traveling and camping, but it will at least save on gas.
